At the World Championships 2016 in Kuala Lumpur, the ITTF Sports Science and Medical Committee organized workshops with goal to transfer knowledge and bridge the gap between scientific researches and its implementation in coaches’ and athletes’ routines.
Miran Kondric, PhD, the Chair of the ITTF Sport Science and Medical Committee was organizational force behind workshops.
The first lecturer was Michiyo Kimura, PhD, a sports dietitian and registered dietitian from Takasaki University of Health and Welfare in Japan. The topic of meals during table tennis tournaments was addressed.
“Table tennis players usually have several matches in an international tournament; they need adequate nourishment and rest for good condition”, said Michiyo Kimura. “However, there are several players who miss meals because they have to compete in matches during lunch and dinner time.”
